In the following exercises let the student select occasional opportunities to use First Inversions to advantage.
There is one degree of the Scale {the Seventh Degree) which, when it is found in the Bass, should invariably be treated as the Third of a Chord; since it is not to be used as the Root of a Common Chord.
Two First Inversions may be used in succession by doubling the Root in one Chord and the Fifth in the next; or by doubling in the Unison in one Chord and in the Octave of the next, thus: |
